Distribution: Alberta and British Columbia southward along both slopes of the Rockies to southern New Mexico (Miller et al. 2018).
Type locality (gigans): Head of Pine Creek, Calgary, AB.
Type locality (decorum): Manitou, CO.
Similar Species:

Phalaena furcula of authors, not Clerck, 1759
Taxonomic Notes: Furcula gigans (McDunnough, 1922) includes as a synonym Furcula furcula of authors; (not Clerck, 1759). F. furcula was added to the list with gigans and decorum (both former synonyms of occidentalis in Hodes et al. (1983) (Checklist)) as synonyms in Miller et al. (2018), MONA Fascicle 22.1A: 126.
