Synonymy: • Noctua luctuosa [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775 • Phalaena astroites Geoffroy, 1785 • Noctua italica Fabricius, 1781 • Tarache speciosissima Bryk, 1940 Taxonomic Notes: Tyta luctuosa: A Eurasian species released in North America as a biological control agent for field bindweed Convulvus arvensis. Collection records from Utah in 2007 by Jim Vargo suggest it has become established.
