Eumorpha megaeacus (Hübner, [1819]), proposed by Hübner to replace Sphinx eacus Cramer (1780a: 166), a junior primary homonym of Sphinx aeacus [Denis & Schiffermüller] (1775: 45), now a junior synonym of Zygaena ephialtes coronillae ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775), was misspelled as megeacus and listed as a synonym of 7862 Eumorpha eacus (Cramer, 1780) in Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist). Kitching & Cadiou (2000), see note 174, restored megaeacus as the valid name, in accordance with ICZN Article 58. |
