Larva and Host Plants: Host familiy: Ericaceae Fagaceae Pinaceae Chaetophoraceae[Protococcaceae][Algae] Detritophagous.  Host genera: Abies Monotropa Picea Pinus Quercus Protococcus[Algae] Detritophagous[plant].  Host extended: dead leaves (Wagner et al 2011).  (Kimberley & Douglas 2025) Similar Species: Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: protumnusalis (Walker, 1859) (Herminia) - MONA 1983: 8349 minimalis Grote, 1878 (Zanclognatha) Taxonomic Notes: Zanclognatha protumnusalis is part of a complex of at least two species which includes 8349.1 Z. dentata. Zanclognatha minimalis Grote, 1878 was treated as a synonym in Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist) but is intermediate between Z. dentata and protumnusalis.
