Distribution: PA west to IL and south to FL. Larva and Host Plants: Host familiy: Juglandaceae Fagaceae Ulmaceae.  Host genera: Carya Castanea Quercus Ulmus.  Notes: leaves (Wagner et al 2011); [It is likely host plants for Hyperstrotia nana are embedded here].  (Shropshire & Douglas 2025) Description/ Field Marks: Hyperstrotia villificans is apparently represented at BOLD by BIN BOLD:ACE3004 based on range. Similar Species: 930727 Hyperstrotia nana: is apparently represented at BOLD by BIN BOLD:ACE6422 based on range. Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: villificans (Barnes & McDunnough, 1918) (Cryphia) - MONA 1983: 9038; TL: New Brighton, PA. Taxonomic Notes: Hyperstrotia villificans (Barnes & McDunnough, 1918) was synonymized with 9035 Hyperstrotia nana by Lafontaine & Schmidt (2015) and returned to full species status by Schmidt et al. (2018), ZooKeys, 788: 245, based on new DNA barcode evidence.
