Larva and Host Plants: Host familiy: Salicaceae.  Host genera: Populus Salix.  Notes: young larvae feed on catkins, later on foliage (Powell & Opler 2009); specialist on Salix & Populus (Crabo et al 2014); [exclude Quercus].  (Shropshire & Douglas 2025) Similar Species: Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: tatago Lafontaine & Mikkola, 2003 (Xanthia) - MONA 1983: [NEW] flavago of authors; (not Fabricius, 1787) (Noctua) misappl. lutea of authors; (not Ström, 1783) (Phalaena) misappl. togata of authors; (not Esper, 1788) (Phalaena) misappl. - MONA 1983: [9965] Taxonomic Notes: Xanthia tatago Lafontaine & Mikkola, 2003 was previously assumed to be conspecific with the European species Xanthia togata (Esper, 1788) - Pink-barred Sallow.
