Larva and Host Plants: Host familiy: Betulaceae Rosaceae Styracaceae.  Host genera: Betula Cornus Halesia Prunus.  Notes: presumably many woody plants (Wagner et al 2011); likely other broad-leaved woody plants (Powell & Opler 2009).  (Shropshire & Douglas 2025) Similar Species: Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.) Synonymy: mactata (Guenée, 1852) (Apamea) mispl. - MONA 1983: 9419 ssp. a. mactata (Guenée, 1852) (Apamea) mispl. ssp. b. allecto (Smith, 1899) (Hadena) mispl. Taxonomic Notes: "Platypolia" mactata (Guenée, 1852) was formerly placed in the genus Oligia. Generic placement is tentative in Lafontaine & Schmidt (2010), ZooKeys, 40: 153.
