Larva and Host Plants: Host familiy: Asteraceae Betulaceae Plantaginaceae[Scrophulariaceae] Polygonaceae Rosaceae Salicaceae Vitaceae.  Host genera: Betula Cirsium Digitalis Fragaria Plantago Rumex Salix Vitis.  Host extended: generalist on many kinds of herbaceous vegetation (Crabo et al 2014).  (Kimberley & Douglas 2025) Similar Species: Pinned specimens of related species. Synonymy: comes Hübner, [1813] (Noctua) - MONA 1983: [NEW] adsequa (Treitschke, 1825) (Triphaena) bergensis (Sparre-Schneider, 1901) (Agrotis) curtisii (Nerwman, 1870) (Tryphaena) griseofusca (Prout, 1904) (Triphaena) loeberbaueri Burmann & Tarmann, 1987 (Noctua) orbona Fabricius, 1787 (Noctua) prosequa (Treitschke, 1825) (Triphaena) scotophila Burmann & Tarmann, 1987 (Noctua) Taxonomic Notes: Noctua comes is an introduced species (Eurasia, reported from OR-BC, Ottawa area).
